The Oregon Education Technology Standards
Creativity and Innovation
Communication and Collaboration
Research and Information Fluency
Critical Thinking, Problem Solving and Decision Making
Digital Citzenship
Technology Operations and Concepts
Here are some ways I came apply these standard to my future lesson plans,
For communication and collaboration I can use blogs where students can read and post assignments, questions, and information. The students then can collaborate by leaving comments on each others blogs. Also for communication and collaboration students can use skype which is a way students can talk to each other in real time.
Students can show creativity and innovation by using TokBox to make presentation to show the class. Also students can share ideas on their blogs.
Technology Operations and Concepts: Google Docs can be use for a variety of reasons. It can be used for students to have e-mail addresses for communication purposes. Students can use Google Docs for assignments for the use of graphs and google sheets. There is also a lot of gadgets on google docs that can help with assignments, labs, and experiments.
Research and Information Fluency- I can also create a web site for my class where I have the syllabus, lesson plans and assignment, but it also has places and good sites to go to to find reliable information for research projects.
Critical Thinking, Problem Solving and Decision Making-In class we can use yodio to have a quick collaboration of words or phrases where students can listen to and write down their reactions for this. For example in a health class each student can say a word of what they feel when they hear the word bullying. When everyone in class said their word in yodio it can be played back and the whole class can listen to and react to what they hear.
Digital Citizenship- I will make sure that the class knows the class rules that revolve around respect on what they write about. How they react to each others statement and comments. Also I will tell the student that there are sites like
Turnitin.com where I can put in their work and it will tell me if it is plagiarized or not. I will make a statement that explain and shows the students why they should now plagiarize.

Ed Tech TokBov
Here is my TokBox presentation. We used the TokBox to recored out TokBox presentation. We talked about how to use Tokbox and ways to use TokBox inside and outside of class. We showed what the main screen page looks like. We also talked about some things that Tokbox is like, for example people can video chat like Skype but it can also record like video camera and be sent to people.

Google docs spread sheet
The data shows that even though the students scored below average on their test, their scores increased from test 6 to test 10. This means that every test they increased their score and did better from one test to the next.
This can help me in the future by showing me that even though the students are scoring below average they are improving. This can be difficult to see by just looking at their test score. This spread sheet allows to input multiple scores to see how they are doing throughout the term and not just for that test.
I will can use this in the future when entering data on grades and tests but also I can enter the data to show the class what different people got for part of an assignment. For example, when recording information for genetics and what characteristic each of the students have. Then I can show it on the a graph for the students to see what is dominate and recessive.
Here is my score sheets:

Students
Students
There are 38 students in the physical education class that I am going to teach. Out of the 38 students one student is Asian, one student is Indian and three are Hispanic. That means out of 38 students 33 are white.
In the physical education class I am teaching, the students tend to group boys with boys and girls with girls. Occasionally there will be a mixture of boys and girls. When the groups get together usually they are the same students grouping together. This makes me aware that there are a lot of cliques in my class. Rarely when students pick groups do they go with anyone else then who they usually group with. In physical education there are times where students are getting too competitive and they start to say mean things and are not nice to each other.
When I teach I will not allow any disrespectful comments or attitudes towards one another. I want to start the class by doing cooperative games where the students get to know each other. By doing cooperative games it allows the students to work together to reach a goal. During the cooperative games I am going to reinforce that no negative comments are made and that in this class we help each other and encourage each other. I will also try and do activities where the students have to work with other people by either assigning teams before class or splitting the students up during class. I want my students to feel comfortable playing with anyone, that way they can focus more or the activity and worry less about who is on their team.
Since the class is mostly white I will watch for students who leave out or exclude any of the different ethnic students. If this happens I will make sure to group the students myself. I will not tolerate anyone who purposely excludes others no matter what their ethnic background is. I want to make sure people feel comfortable and safe and allowing students to exclude others does not help the students feel like they are in a safe place. If there is anyone who might not want one of the different ethnic students in their group I will make it clear to them it is not allowed in my classroom. By not allowing the segregation it will open their eyes and minds to accepting them and hopefully they will get to know one another in the process.

Skpye
This was my first time learning about Skype. I didn't know this type of program existed out there. I really like how it people can talk over their computers and there is no need for a phone to connect. I also like how there is a place where students can just talk to one another. In the future I can use this for the students if they had questions they can either get onto skype and ask their classmates or even I can communicate with them to explain an assignment or any confusion they had in class.

Ed Tech: My Favorite Web2.0 tools
Web 2.0 is defined by “a web-based platform for applications and services” This means that all my files I can access anywhere, anytime’s on any computer. It surprises be how fast the computer world is advancing. I remember days that if something happened to your computer or file is was gone and there was nothing you can do about it. I think this will be beneficial to be because I won’t have to worry about hauling my laptop around or losing important information or backing up everything I have. This will create a lot less stress of the worrying of the malfunction of the computer and all your hard work vanishing into thin air. This will be very useful in my future teaching career.
A web based tool I will probably use in the future is Google Docs. This will allow me to create a website for my students and parents and a way to keep an open communication line and a helpful tool for questions. This can also help the student catch up quicker if they miss a class. I also would incorporate blogger into my classroom. I can post assignments and have my class turn it in online and have class discussions through blogger. Blogger also opens up the line of communication between students where they can comment on each other blogs and get to know each other.

Description of the classroom
There are three gyms at Whiteaker Middle School. In the two lower gyms the flooring is wood and the walls are painted two shades of blue with a line of orange between the two colors. The colors represent the school colors. There isn’t a lot on the walls besides a few posters of different muscles and the six week grades posted. The uppers gym’s floor is wood as well. In one corner of the room there is a rock wall and in another corner is some gymnastics equipment. On one side of the gym there is cardio and muscular strength machines.
There are three teachers that teach in one school period and each teacher has a gym. There is one storage room down stairs and one storage room upstairs for equipment. One of the lower gyms is a lot bigger than the other lower gym. The larger gym contains bleachers and that is parents and spectator sit during school games. There is a boy’s locker room and a girl’s locker room off of the largest gym. When the students enter the large gym from the locker room they start to walk around the gym counter clockwise. When the P.E. teachers come out they have the students sit in their roll spots where each student sits in a row of six. This is done alphabetically so when taking roll the teacher just look for the missing holes of the rows.
The atmosphere of the gym is at time loud but the students look like they are enjoying their self’s and enjoying the social aspect of physical education. Most of the time everyone participates in the activities and they look like they are having fun doing it. This makes me excited to teach physical education at this grade level because most of the students still enjoy physical education. I think this is the perfect age to teach the students about the benefits of exercising while they still enjoy it. I feel that it is crucial to start the education of physical activity, health, and fitness at an age when the students are still enjoying physical education. This is also a good age to have the students try knew activities before the students get too influenced by feeling stupid or dump about trying a new activity. Games that would be good to start is cooperating games where the point of the games are to get to know each other, working together, problem-solving and supporting each other.

Description of the School Population
The demographics of Whiteaker Middle School in 2006-2007 are as follows. There were 38 teachers and 791 students. That’s a ratio of 21 students per teacher. There are around 250 students per grades, which range from 6th-8th grade. The ethnic groups are 75.5% white, 10.4% Latino, 2.0% Asian, 1.3% black, and 1.1% Native American.
The school extracurricular activities like choir, band, and sports which could cost or does cost extra money. Most students don’t have a problem with school extracurricular activities costing money. The school just got brand new lockers this year and even though the school was built in 1966 the school looks clean and not as old as it is. To me this means they keep up on the maintenance.
When walking through the halls and in the classroom most students are white and the way they are dressed I can tell most come from middle to upper class households’. This might mean that some students don’t understand poverty and might make fun of people who smell or don’t dress a nice as they do.
I will not tolerate any teasing in my class and if I ever hear teasing that has to do with what a student doesn’t have I will make sure to spend time in class discussing this issue. An issue with me is that it might be hard for some students to understand and some might never, but I will try my hardest and make a point how it is not okay to tease and give reasons why in a way they can understand.

Ed Tech How to use a Blog
A way I can use a blog in my future classroom is in P.E. have websites or articles where the students can go an ready about either recient sporting events, athletes, physical activity, and health. Then I will have them blog about what they read. At times I will have them blog about whatever they want but other times I will have them blog about a signed questions.
I can also do this in Science by having them go to websites or having them read article and blogging about them but I can also have it as a way the students can communicate together about assignments and what they did in class that day.

Community
Community of Keizer Oregon around Whiteaker Middle School
Keizer was founded in 1843 by people who arrived on wagons. The community was named after Thomas Dove Keizur but somewhere on the land claim record the name was misspelled and that’s how it has become Keizer. In 1882 Keizer was named its own city. In 1983 the population of Keizer was 19,650 and the last recoded population in 2008 was 36,150. Whiteaker is one of two middle schools in Keizer, but it was the only middle school in Keizer till 2001. The ethnic group of Keizer is 85.5% white, 12.3% Hispanic and 2.2% other. The age distribution in Keizer is 27.4% under the age of 18, 33.7% is median age, and 12.4% is older than 65.
The neighborhood surrounding the school was mostly built in the 70’s and 80’s. It is a mostly white community. Claggett Creek middle school community is more diverse then Whiteaker middle school community. When going on a walk in the community there are people walking dogs, going on runs/walks and neighbors outside talking to each other. It has a feeling of a safe community where kids still play outside. I see kids riding bikes and skateboarding down the sidewalks. Since the community is mostly white this will reflect the student population at Whiteaker to be mostly white. That means I need to pay close attention and make sure that the people of different ethnic groups feels like they fit in and is part of the community. I would say the community around Whiteaker middle school is middle class. Since they are coming from a middle class I might assume the basic needs of the students are getting met. However, I will still keep my eyes open and not disregard anything because of what I think is.

Kids I find easy to like- talkative, positive attitudes, respectful
Kids I find it hard to like- disrespectful, mean
Kids I feel sorry for- live in poverty, disabilities, forgotten about
Kids I feel threatened by- Use of language, gang affiliation
Kids I identify with- hard working, easy to get along with
Kids I gravitate towards- the students that need extra help, or seem confused about the subject content
Kids I feel inadequate around- Can spell and their use of language that is superior to mine
Kids I don’t even notice- non- talkers, sit in the back behind students.

Chpt 3
I interviewed someone who was a student in the 60’s and a teacher in the 70’s. There wasn’t any people of color at the school or town where they grew up in Idaho. The first time they saw a person of color was when they were 11 or 12. In school since she was a girl she had to wear dresses and she couldn’t wear paints. However the guys could wear whatever
While in high school there was a right to wear paints on Friday because the girls did a sit in to make the point. When the girls still protested by a seat in the principle asked the girls what did the state law say. When they looked it up all the law said about clothing was they had to wear shoe. This then allowed the girls to wear paints on any days they wanted. She remembers the fear and distrust that the administrator had for the students.
In school girls couldn’t play sports. They were allowed to play power puff foot ball. This was once a year after football season was over. They got to put on football equipment and play football but most people who came to watch thought it was a joke and not a sport. Most people thought it was funny to watch and that is why they came.
When she was a teacher in Idaho there was an occasion Asian, Latino, and even more rare a black kid. When desegregation happened she remembers colored students being bused in from around the area and some students of white color had to be bused to different schools to prevent overcrowding.
She remembers the first time a black family moved to town. They were all about human right and people were thinking they were just trying to rock the boat but in reality they probably just wanted his kids to get the same education as everyone else. She said, “Civil rights changed a lot of thing” and explained how the civil rights act was the start of human rights. Title nine feel shortly there after and then the disability act. The civil right movement opened the door for other movements.

interview
When interviewing Nathan he is a 26 year old male he states, “My greatest achievement is graduating from college.” He said he got it done through hard work and determination. Nathan admires people that have goals and goes out and reach them.
On a normal day at school for Josie in the 7th grade she gets on to bus and goes to class. During her breaks she likes to hang out with her friends. At lunch she eats then goes to the track to hang out with her friends, she goes back to class then goes home on the bus. Josie says at the beginning of the year she has a planner that plans out every day to parents and they have to sign them. Every day it explains what they did for that day. This planner only goes out during the first semester but not the second. She said the only way a teacher talks to family is at conferences but each week she is sent home a calendar for her Grandma (her guardian) to have. The only communication between families and teachers is through letters, calendars and planners being sent home with the child. She said that sometimes her and her friends get ideas from TV shows, for example writing who they like on the bathroom wall or lockers. She feels that sometimes her teacher doesn’t respect her. If she couldn’t hear or understand the information the teacher was saying because people were talking around her the teacher wouldn’t repeat it, even if asked.
Josie feels like she has the most power when a substitute is teaching because people don’t really respect them. She really likes PE because the teacher gives her choices on what to do. She has a sense of freedom in PE class. Her favorite thing to do in school is PE. Outside of school she likes hanging out with friends and going to skate world. She also feels a sense of belonging when she comes to choir. If I were to become her teacher tomorrow she said she would love me as a teacher if I had a variety of ways to teach. She said being more “chill” and being yourself, who is not too strict but doesn’t let people walk all over them is a fantastic teacher.

Autobiography
Danielle’s Autobiography:
I was born the middle child. I have an older sister and a younger brother. My dad was married and divorced before he met my mom and had three kids, two girls and one boy. They are my half brothers and sisters. They were all grown up when I was born so they where more like aunts and uncles, not brother and sisters. Growing up we were not poor but we weren’t rich either. My dad went to work and my mom did daycare from our home.
My dad’s role was the decision maker and the provider of the family. My mom was the one who took care of us and did the cooking and cleaning. My dad was more of the one who played monsters with us and my mom was the one who made sure our teeth were brushed and that we went to bed on time. My parents tried not to argue in front of us so if they ever did I usually came out and used words that they would on my brother, sister and I. I would say, “Now kids do I have to separate you?” My mom and dad called me the “peace maker” of the family because I didn’t like to argue and if people did I was the one who tried to fix it.
As we grew up my parents told us we had to go to school every day, however if we were sick they didn’t think twice to send us to school, but if we were healthy there was not a choice; I had to be at school. When I received good grades I didn’t receive any rewards, they would make comments like good job we are proud of you. I was always jealous of my friends who received money for every A they got on their report card. When I was a child, usually the punishment was to sit in time out for one minute for every year you were. They also did not believe in spanking. As I got older my parents didn’t really have punishment besides going to your room. There were only a few times in my life where I had to go to bed early or couldn’t watch TV. They did have strict rules, bed times and curfews. I always went by the rules so I don’t know what would have happened if I decided not to.
Around late elementary school sports became a big factor in our lives, there was always some sort of game going on all year between my brother, sister and I. When I was ten I joined a competitive soccer team, from that moment on I played soccer year around for 10 years. What I remember about soccer is how my dad never missed games and my mom would watch rain or shine under the umbrella.
I went to an elementary school that was a block away from my house. I remember being proud when I was old enough to walk my brother and me to school by ourselves. My middle school was only a few more blocks away, I walked there as well. My high school was probably a mile away. I spent much of my childhood in one house where my school‘s were just done the road. A majority of my community was white however it was never only white. As I grew up skin color was never an issue with me, I never thought people were any different from me. I talked to whoever sat by me. In middle school I had a diverse range of friends but never realized it until I was much older. My first boyfriend was black and I loved to play soccer with two of my Hispanic friends.
In high school I started seeing some imaginary lines that I never saw before. The Hispanics always sat by each other and ate lunch together. There were only a few black students even though they hung out with everyone most of the time they hung out with another black person. Even though I started to see the imaginary line I didn’t always abide by them. I still thought of everyone being equal however I never once put myself in their shoes so I have no idea if they thought they were equal.
When I reached college I played soccer for two years at a community college. After soccer was over I had a hard choice to continue to play soccer or not. I decided to stop playing competitively and focused on my school. I applied for the Physical Therapy Assistance program and took a few months off school to work full time. I found out I got an alternate position for the program and that was the first time in my life that I didn’t know what I was going to do for the next year. Nathan, my husband asked me the question what I wanted to do with my life. That is when I realized I wanted to teach. I started going to Western Oregon and for 2 years I pretty much had the same people in all of my classes. I made a lot of good friends. My friends were once again very diverse coming from different backgrounds. One of my friends father is from Africa and I love to hear the stories that he tells me. I just graduated from Western a few weeks before the MAT program at Willamette started. I am excited for my future of being a teacher.

1. My vision of myself as a fantastic teacher is being able to engage students in what I am teaching by making it interactive and interesting. I want to connect the information that I am saying with events, pictures, or anything that can help engage the students in the information I am providing. This means I need to be “highly qualified” and know the information I am teaching inside and out so I can use examples and ways that the information I am using is relevant to the students today. To be a fantastic teacher I believe you have to know the students and the diversity of them, that way when I give examples I am using examples from different cultures and not just one. I also want to try to make my class as comfortable as I can that way the classroom with become a community instead of cliques and disenfranchised students.
2. Loving children means you have a deep emotion for their well being, and to care about the children’s outcome. Wanting to help student’s means to assist them to reach a goal they set. It is also using your knowledge to aid them in any way they need assistance. Another reason I want to teach is because I have been doing it in a variety of ways my whole life without even knowing it. I also want to teach because when I am in a teaching role it is what make me happy and what makes me happier is when the person I am teaching is understanding and gaining more knowledge through what I am teaching.
3. What will sustain me. I believe that loving children will sustain me if I realize everyone has bad days and that everyone wants and needs to be loved. If I let a tough student change my mind, I am not really caring about their future or their well-being, it should become more about them and not me. I think that wanting to help students can change depending on the situation In some cases if I am not familiar with a culture or students I could be doing more harm than good. That is why I think it is so important to know your students that way as a teacher you can help them as much as possible. I think that even if the students are not gaining knowledge from what I am learning I need to step aside and look at the bigger picture, why do they not understand? I would still be sustaining if they do not understand because that just means I need to reword or teach it in a different way. This is more challenging but I think will be more rewarding for me and the students if I never give up and keep trying until one way makes sense.
4. Similarities between the statements are that teachers are the ones helping, assisting, and guiding the students. The differences on love and help are what the teacher gets from it. The prospective of Darling-Hammond is what the student gets out of it. It is based around the student’s best interest.
11.Dale Spender spoke out about how women are not received as a problem because they were invisible. Since women were invisible she focused on how if you want something done you have to do it yourself. To me it is hard to think of a time where women were invisible not able to learn like men did. When I read quotes from feminist and the one by Dale Spender I think of breaking through the norm. I could take out women and just use invisible and think that some students today are still invisible, from the child being left out on the play ground, a Spanish speaking person in an English speaking school, or a student who is in poverty. It is when people make a stand change can occur.
12. The main purpose of school is to create a safe environment for students to learn, and gain behavioral and social aspects for the future. The purpose serves to a diverse society by creating a new community and environment, where they are safe to learn and grow. The purpose relates to a social stratified society by creating a safe environment so the students can let their guards down and participate. The teacher starts by creating a safe environment by creating trust so the students feel comfortable. When the students feel comfortable they are more eager and ready to learn because of the safety and trust the teachers can make in the classroom.
13. As a teacher I envision myself creating a classroom where students can come and learn in a safe environment. I strive to create a community in the classroom that builds off trust this allows me to get know my students. By getting to know my students I will gain knowledge of the best way to teach the class by knowing what examples to give them that connection to the information and make sure the examples is relevant to the students today. By knowing who they are and the cultures and background of the students it allows to move new information into the classroom so I am not only focused on one type of culture and neglecting others. One of the most important things is engaging students in what I am teaching by making it interactive and interesting by adding in pictures and examples. This will also help the visual learners by reinforcing the information in a way they can understand best. To be the best teacher I need to be “highly qualified” and know the information I am teaching inside and out.
